Finally the show preview has begun. I took a quick peek and there are lots of amazing critters created by 75 artists from all over the world. The "Friends of Teddy" show begins July 13th and last til the 15th. You can go to the preview page now and vote for your favorite. The Collector's Choice Awards will be announced at the beginning of the show.
Steampunk Puss N Boots is my preview critter. Now you can see what I needed that black leather coat for that I posted about several posts ago. In total, I will have 7 all new critters for the show. Mark your calendars!

Silly Bird!
Sometime last week we discovered that a bird had built a nest in a fishing net stored on a shelf on the back porch. It looked as if it was almost complete so we decided to leave it alone even though hubby was not happy with the birds in our backyard. Bill has 6 or so blueberry bushes along the side fence. He carefully covered them with netting to protect the blueberries as they ripened. The birds still managed to get in and eat most of the berries.
Yesterday we realized there were baby birds in the nest. I had to get out a step stool to get the photo and mama fussed at me from the back fence as I did. We are pretty sure mama is a Mockingbird. So, the fishing net will not be used until babies have left the nest.....but the fish nets won't be available for the next one.

Back in time
I would like to say I have been busy all week working on critters for the Friends of Teddy show. It's a good thing I have plenty of time because certain things beyond my control got in the way. Earlier in the week hubby woke up with a sore swollen ankle. We ended up spending almost the entire day at the VA medical center. Arthritis and possibly gout were diagnosed. As of this minute he is out riding his bike, so we can assume his ankle is much better. Three cloudy days with lots of rain dampened our mood. We are used to mostly sunny days here in Florida with an occasional afternoon shower. I think that's what kept me away from sewing and pulled to other things.
I took some photos today and, after uploading them, I looked at some photos of older creations. I made a collage of some of my favorites. Maybe I needed some new inspiration from some old ideas.
Reminder: The Friends of Teddy show at Teddies Worldwide is coming up next month, starting July 13th. But the preview begins June 29th.

Florida living
We have lived in Florida for almost 8 years now. It still seems like a vacation! Sure it gets hot, but not really any hotter than the rest of the country in the summer. Our summer's just start earlier and end later. We lived through 3 hurricanes, one right after the other, our first couple of months here. We still love it. You will only find our ac on occasionally, if at all.
Today, just a mile from our home, we had lunch in a park by the water. It was beautiful, with a nice breeze off the water. And we can go as often as we like....paradise.

Yard sale and estate finds
Hubby and I have always enjoyed yard and estate sales. Lately they have become a weekly adventure. Many times we come home empty handed but we love the treasure hunt and time spent together. Even though this is a holiday weekend there were a number of both, estate and yard sales. Many times the estate sales items are unrealistically priced. I understand they are trying to make money for the estate but rusty screwdrivers are not worth $2 apiece. Of course, I'm not looking for rusty screwdrivers anyway. I'm looking for a sweet little treasure. The pink leather baby shoes were purchased at an estate sale. The wood doll house furniture, doll, and little metal train were purchased at a yard sale for 50 cents. I also picked up a great distressed leather jacket for 50 cents....maybe some aviator caps for some critters....
My preview piece for the Friend of Teddy show is finished and photographed. It took longer than expected but it is more detailed than anything I have made in quite awhile. The preview starts June 29 so you will have to wait another month to see it. Now, I am working on another critter for the show but really want to find the time to work on my little plastic bjd.

Making progress
Finally, I feel like I am getting somewhere on my preview creation for the Friends of Teddy show. After decided which mohair to use and designing the pattern the sewing began. Luckily I have plenty of the mohair because the head didn't turn out right and I had to make another. It's almost ready to accessorize and that might take the rest of the week.
Saturday, at a rummage sale, I purchased this leather coat for $2. It will be used for the accessories. Fingers crossed that it turns out as I have envisioned.

Babies
This little green monkey is for my, yet to be born, great niece. Kylie Noelle is due the first week of June. She will be my sister's first grand child. I saw this picture of the room my niece has prepared for the baby and after learning monkeys were her theme, decided she needed a green monkey. It's the first monkey I have made. I printed a special sew in label so baby Kylie will know it's from her Aunt Nancy.
My sister is doing much better. She was moved to a rehab facility and hopefully will be going home soon.
This baby is the grandson of a blogger friend. This little baby needs lots of prayers as he will be born will several congenital problems. You can click on the link to read about him in her blog.
